Mary Kay Yates

Mary Kay Yates, M.S.,CCC-SLP, the newest member of Casper Minds, is excited to begin her new venture as our newest Speech and Language Pathologist. Her passion to develop clients with active and creative minds has led her to join this supportive team. Mary Kay has been providing speech and language intervention for 30 years in both educational and private settings. She earned her M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from James Madison University. Mary Kay is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health Professions and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Although her ultimate goal is verbal communication, Mary Kay uses motivation to teach children to use many different modes of communication, such as sign, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication), graphics and other augmentative communication devices. She is passionate about helping parents improve their child’s communication skills by encouraging them to observe and learn to implement the techniques in all environments. Mary Kay also understands the importance of consultation/collaboration with caregivers, teachers and other therapists. She utilizes ABA and AVB techniques in her therapy sessions, as well as sensory integration and stimulation. All children can make progress through what she calls, “The 3 S’s: Safety, Security and Success.” Some of the specialties she has worked with include pediatrics, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, auditory processing, phonology, childhood apraxia of speech, articulation, receptive and expressive language, pragmatics, fluency and voice. Her education and additional training includes:
